According to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.0
km² (4.2
mi²). 11.0 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.47%) is water.
As of the
census of 2000, there were 7,344 people, 2,769 households, and 1,578 families residing in the city. The
population density was 670.3/km² (1,736.4/mi²). There were 3,012 housing units at an average density of 274.9/km² (712.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.00%

The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 20.7% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.3 males.
