Backward Castes

Backward Castes people are generally a group of people who generally live off income derived from self employment on caste-dependent skills assignment. They live mainly in rural India and perform hard physical labour. Backward Castes constitute more than 50% of Indian population. Even though they have a rich culture, many live below the poverty line. Now every political party in India is trying to use these communities as a vote bank. Some politicians like D. Devaraj Urs, V.P. Singh tried to self enpower these communities. Now there are many opinion leaders in these communities like Bangarappa, Siddaramaiah, Uma Bharathi, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav,Devender Goud from Andhra Pradesh and many more.
