Bentonville, Arkansas
Bentonville is a city in
Benton County,
Arkansas,
United States. The population was 19,730 at the 2000 census. Preliminary results of a special census released in April 2006 show that the city's population has increased to 28,478 pending certification by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Bentonville is the
county seat of
Benton County6. The headquarters of
Wal-Mart Stores, the largest
retailer in the world, as well as that of
The Whistler Group, a major US manufacturer of
radar detectors, are located in Bentonville.
Due to Wal-Mart's presence, and the visits to the company headquarters by those seeking to have Wal-Mart sell their products, the city has gained the colloquial nickname
Vendorville.
Bentonville has a
mayor-council form of government. The Bentonville Parks Commission, Advertising & Promotion Commission, Library Board, Airport Commission, Planning Commission, Historic District Committee, Tree & Landscape Committee, and the Board of Adjustments are city groups of commissions that contribute to the community.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 55.1

mi²). 55.0 km² (21.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.09%) is water.
As of the
census2 of 2000, there were 19,730 people, 7,458 households, and 5,265 families residing in the city. The city grew substantially in the 1990s; the 1990 population was 11,257.
The
population density was 358.7/km² (928.9/mi²). There were 7,924 housing units at an average density of 144.0/km² (373.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 90.92%

There were 7,458 households out of which 40.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were
married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are classified as non-families by the
United States Census Bureau. 24.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.11.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,936, and the median income for a family was $46,558. Males had a median income of $31,816 versus $23,761 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $20,831. 10.3% of the population and 7.5% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.7% are under the age of 18 and 10.9% are 65 or older.

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, which also serves
Fayetteville, Arkansas and
Springdale, Arkansas.
