BKTV

BKTV (which is an acronym for: Braća Karić Televizija, in English: The Brothers Karich Television) is one of the youngest television stations in Serbia. It is a privately owned, revenue generating media house with a "G" rating (general audiences or general interest station) and without editorial or content restrictions.

The station began operating on December 5th, 1994 with the motto: "Symbol of good television." The first show on-air was called, in translation, "Little Serbian Reader."

BK Telecom owns up-to-date television technology, modern working environments, four TV studios, numerous edit suites and master controls, SNG vehicles, satellite connections BKTV SAT and mobile ENG crews.

Currently BKTV covers more than 90% of the territory and reaches about 90% of the entire population.

It aired the Serbian version of the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" ("Želite li da postanete milioner?"), but now that show and The Weakest Link ("Najslabija karika") can only be seen on the terrestrial version of the channel. BKTV Sat is broadcasting FTA (unencrypted) via Hotbird satellite at 13°E.

The company has several more stations in the country:
*BK 063
*BK Satellite Service
*DTV (Dečija Televizija, in English- Kids TV), this channel was originally called Eksperimentalni (Experimental) and was the first channel oriented towards Kids in Eastern Europe.

Shutting down

On April 25 2006, the Serbian state agency for airwaves control (Republički radiodifuzni savet) decided to revoke BKTV's broadcasting license for the violation of broadcasting regulations for 30 days. Shortly after midnight on April 26, BKTV's physical location was raided by the police and the station ciesed the broadcast. Around 11am the same day, most of the cable operators stopped transmitting the station. It nevertheless continues to broadcast via satellite, and television sets have been set out televising the channel in Knez Mihailova Street in Belgrade for passers-by to watch.

As of today, BKTV is still off the air, only being transmited over Satellite.
