Bob Shamansky
Robert Norton Shamansky is a former
Democratic party member of the
U.S. House of Representatives from
Ohio.
Shamansky ran for a seat in the
United States House of Representatives in
1966 but lost to
Republican incumbent
Samuel L. Devine.
Fourteen years later, in
1980, Shamansky challenged Devine again. This time, Shamansky was successful in unseating the long-time incumbent Devine, becoming the first Democrat to win the District since
1937, and the only Democrat to beat an incumbent Republican Congressman that year. As a member of the
97th Congress, Shamansky served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee (now the
Committee on International Relations), and as a member of the
Science and Technology Committee.
In 1982, after
reapportionment, Shamansky was defeated in his bid for re-election by future
Fox News Channel talk-show host
John Kasich. In
February 2006 Shamansky announced his intention to again run for the
12th District, facing Rep.
Pat Tiberi (R-
Genoa Township) on November 7th.
A graduate of
The Ohio State University, and
Harvard Law School, Shamansky also served as a
Special Agent in the
United States Army's Counter Intelligence Corps.[
