Brani Naval Base

Brani Naval Base (BNB) is a former naval facility of the Republic of Singapore Navy, since the relocation of its facilities to Changi Naval Base in 2000. It is the current home of the Police Coast Guard Headquarters.

Pulau Brani was selected to house the naval base in the early 1970s and it was designed with consultancy from Brigadier Sir Bruce White. Work on building the new naval base started with the first pile driven in on 17 August 1972. The entire project cost $35 million and was completed in January 1974. On 26 January 1974, Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, current Minister Mentor, declared open the Singapore Maritime Command Naval Base on Pulau Brani. Singapore Maritime Command was later renamed the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The naval base had a new wharf and a supply base complex added in 1983 at the cost of $16 million.

Part of the base was subsequently redeveloped to accommodate the expansion of Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), and moved these facilities to a modern high-tech base in Tuas in 1995. In 12 October 2000, the remainder of RSN's facilities was finally closed. On the 23rd of March 2004, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority's Coastal Command HQ was formally opened by the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng.

The Singapore Police Force's Police Coast Guard 's have since demolished and rebuilt its new Headquarters at the old Brani Naval Base Wharf which begun operations on the 20th of March 2006 following the closure of its existing facilities in Kallang Basin.
