Campo de Marte Airport
Campo de Marte Airport (see
Campus Martius) was
São Paulo's first airport, opened in
1919. To fulfill the unexpectedly growing demands, it was supplemented by
Congonhas Domestic Airport. Currently, it is administered by
Infraero.
Campo de Marte is 6 km north from the city's downtown. Handling more than 82,000 take-offs and landings in
2003, the airport was the 5th busiest
Brazilian airport that year, by number of operations.
With a runway 1400x30 m, it caters only to training flights,
helicopters and regional, non-regular flights. It does not operate at night.
