Carl Wheezer
Carlton "Carl" Ulysses Wheezer, a
fictional character, is one of
Jimmy Neutron's friends on the
TV series and
movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. He is voiced by
Rob Paulsen.
According to
canon, Carl was born in
1993, on January 17, making him 10 years old, while his parents were living on the plains outside of
Retroville. At age 4, after a traumatic experience with a barnyard
cat, the Wheezers moved next door to the Neutrons, considering the city a less dangerous place to live. Jimmy and Carl became best friends soon thereafter.
His
blood type is O negative. He is
allergic to just about everything, perhaps including llamas much to his disappointment. His
scapula is very sensitive. He has a fake
knee and an inhaler.
Carl is addicted to
llamas. His room is llama-themed, all his games are llama-themed, and he mentions llamas in almost every episode. He dreams of becoming a famous llama breeder in
South America. When his parents expanded their cable line-up, he found a channel devoted completely to llamas, which he liked, especially the show about a singing, flying, super-hero crossing guard named "Llama Boy". He has ever since been addicted. He even went as far to join an international fan club,
Llama Love Society.
Carl has many
talents, most known of all is his "phenomenal"
singing, with the hit single, the "Folding and Hanging" song. He can also blow snot bubbles using his
inhaler.
Carl claims to have "invented" the "
Hot dog Holder Deluxe" (a hot dog bun). It is thought that he did this to seem more like
Jimmy; as shown in "Nightmare in Retroville", Carl is jealous of Jimmy's abilities and wishes he was a genius. Carl also took ventriloquist lessons; he can imitate virtually anyone.
Carl is apparently in love with
Jimmy's mother, and sometimes unintentionally reveals this. When Jimmy, Sheen and Carl thought they were about to die, Carl and Sheen are thinking about who they'd like to see the most. Sheen says he wants to see Libby's smiling face. Carl says he wants to see, "Jimmy's mom's smiling... (Gets weird look from Jimmy and Sheen)...uh, Lemon Cookies! The ones with the faces on them!" When they are finally out of trouble, Carl takes out a family portrait of the Neutron family, except he cut out Hugh's (Jimmy's dad's) face and pasted his own's.
Carl once had a visiting
pen pal, who said she was a
Swedish tennis player. So Carl got Jimmy and Sheen to help him look like a super
genius. It turned out in the end that the pen pal wasn't a tennis player, just a pretty Swedish
llama breeder.
Carl carries air fresheners on his person at all times, enabling him to immediately produce several of them and offer a choice, specifically between lemon and strawberry. It is not known why, but the implication is that we do not strictly want to know.
Carl is known as nervous, timid and suffering from
hypochondria; at times, he tries to overcome these personality traits in order to appear "
cooler" around Jimmy and mutual friend
Sheen Estevez.
During the episode "The Mighty Wheezers", Carl and his family are temporarily given
superhuman constitutions by Jimmy, leading to scenes that parody the film
Spider-Man, as Carl wakes and discovers his new abilities.
Carl's wardrobe is made up of green overall pants and pink-and-orange striped
polo shirts. His parents are/were 42 (making their birth year c.
1961), and he sometimes dreams about girls, as revealed at the end of "Grumpy Old Men."
While on numerous
adventures with friends
Jimmy Neutron and
Sheen Estevez, Carl often finds himself in dangerous situations and often needs the help of his friends to get him out. Despite all of these mishaps of his, Carl is always in the action, ready to help his friends no matter what the price.
It has been revealed in the episode "Journey to the Center of Carl" that Carl's brain was about the size of a walnut. Sheen even thought that Carl's brain was "a walnut on a stick".
In the episode "Battle of the Band," Carl speaks with a British accent, wears colored sunglasses, and wears different mult-colored clothes, after becoming delusional with the instruments that Jimmy invented. This is possibly a parody of Elton John. In another episode where Jimmy and his friends visit the future, Carl is wearing Elton John-esque clothes again, in revolt of the dress code that Libby enforces as Queen.
