Carth Onasi
Carth was assigned to the cruiser
Endar Spire during the Jedi Civil War when it was ambushed by a
Sith fleet over the planet
Taris. Narrowly escaping by taking an escape pod to the planet surface with the memory-wiped
Revan (who was given a new name and a fake biography of a simple
Republic soldier), the two searched for and eventually found the
Jedi Bastila Shan on the surface. The three escaped Taris on a stolen ship, the
Ebon Hawk, just as
Darth Malak obliterated the city with a planetary bombardment. After escaping to the Jedi Academy on
Dantooine, he was sent along with Bastila and Revan to find the Star Maps and the
Star Forge. Upon investigation, Revan found that Carth's homeworld of
Telos was destroyed by the Sith under the guidance of Admiral
Saul Karath, his former commanding officer and mentor. His wife was killed in the attack and his son, Dustil, went missing. Revan and Carth later found Dustil as a Sith recruit in the Sith Academy on
Korriban. The destruction of his planet led to a significant amount of guilt for Carth, who had and didn't use the opportunity to stop Saul and vowed to kill him. Furthermore, Saul's betrayal and the betrayal of the men who became Sith have caused him to have trouble trusting anyone, almost to the point of paranoia.
While looking for the Star Maps, Carth and his companions were captured by Admiral Karath and taken aboard his ship, the
Leviathan. After breaking out, Bastila, Carth, and Revan managed to make it to the bridge of the ship, where Carth killed Saul. As he was dying, Saul revealed the true identity of Carth and Bastila's companion - that of the former Dark Lord
Revan. Carth felt betrayed, though he was later able to accept that Revan was no longer the Sith Lord and had become a true servant of the light.
Alternate Dark Side Universe Ending
If Revan falls to the dark side, Carth ends up fleeing from the
Ebon Hawk and disappears. In the sequel game, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, if it is made out that Revan followed the dark side, then it is hinted strongly that Rakata was conquered by the Sith, resulting in Carth's death, although nothing final was said on this.
Alternate Female Character Light Side Universe Ending
If Revan remains true to the light side and is female, Carth falls in love with her, and/or helps Revan get into the Star Forge to confront the fallen Bastila Shan and Darth Malak, Revan's former ally.
Alternate Female Character Dark Side Universe Ending
Should Revan be female and choose the path of the dark side, Carth reappears at the Star Forge in an unsuccessful attempt to turn her to the light side, after which she either slays Carth with her own hands or orders Bastila to finish the Republic pilot. Although in a cut-scene from the game, Revan has a third option: to slay Bastila and die onboard the Star Forge with Carth. This alternate ending is triggered only if the romance quest is completed correctly. There is a bug which sometimes may not trigger this on the PC version of KOTOR
After the destruction of the Star Forge and the end of the
Jedi Civil War, Carth was promoted to Admiral. When Revan left to search for the true
Sith Empire beyond the rim, he charged Carth with the task of protecting the Republic until his return, an order Carth dedicated himself to following. When the Sith Lord
Darth Nihilus attacked Telos five years after the end of the Jedi Civil War, Carth led the Republic fleet defending the planet and
Citadel Station above. He also requested to speak with the
Jedi Exile, to see if the Exile found any trace of Revan (only if the player chooses Revan as light side in the beginning of the game). Carth instructed the Exile, if by chance he/she found Revan (if male): "Simply tell him that Admiral Onasi is following his orders." If female, the statement is: "Simply tell her that Carth Onasi is waiting for her."
*On
Revan: "He asked us to stay. To protect the Republic. And after meeting the Exile, I feel matters are a lot worse."
*"The Force can do terrible things to a mind; it can wipe away your memories and destroy your very identity."
