Changi Airbase (West)

The Changi Airbase (West) is the new name of Changi Airbase, renamed since the opening of Changi Airbase (East) on 29 November 2004. The airbase's history stretches back to the colonial period under British rule, when part of the site existed as RAF Changi. Located to the west of Singapore Changi Airport, its aircraft utilizes the runway of the civilian airport.

The airbase houses the 121 and 112 Squadrons, which operate the Fokker-50 maritime patrol aircraft and the KC-135 jet tankers.

RAF Changi

RAF Changi was formerly a Royal Air Force station in Singapore. The station is now the site of Singapore Changi Airport and the Changi Airbase (West). It was situated next to the infamous Changi Prison, where civilians and servicemen were imprisoned by the Japanese following the fall of Singapore in 1942.
