Département ("department") is the name given to an administrative district of France and several other French-speaking countries.In parenthesis the number of départements:

*Départements of Cameroon (officially known as divisions in English) (58)
*Departments of Côte d'Ivoire (58)

Other historical départements were created in the course of the Napoleonic Wars in the lands occupied by the French army or loyal governments.
