Indian movie, directed by Indian director
Yash Chopra. The movie built upon the angry young persona of
Amitabh Bachchan. The movie followed
Zanjeer another path breaking movie for
Amitabh Bachchan. The movie came in a time when the lofty heights of freedom movements were dashed by stark reality of corruption that had seeped into the society. The movie is remembered for its catchy dialogues(
Salim-
Javed) and breath-taking performances by the lead actor
Amitabh Bachchan who was ably supported by
Shashi Kapoor, playing the role of his younger brother.
The movie tells the story of two brothers, Vijay and Ravi Verma, who follow different career paths(of a smuggler and a cop respectively). Vijay is the elder one and has seen his mother go through hard times to bring up her sons. So he follows the path of crime to make easy money. Ravi joins the police force, though not intentionally, but for
livelihood.
As the professions chosen by them are so contrasting in nature, and since they live in the same city (in fact the same house) they were very naturally bound to confront each other. Their mom has to make a choice now, between the two sons. Being an idealist, she chooses to support Ravi.

* Jab ek bhaai bolega to ek bhaai sunega, jab ek mujrim bolega to ek police officer sunega.(When a brother talks, a brother will listen. When a criminal talks, a police officer will listen.)
* Uff tumhare yeh usool, yeh aadarsh. Kis kaam ke hai yeh. Inko gondhkar do waqt ki roti naheen banaayi jaa sakti(Oh, these principles, these ideals of yours. What use are these? They cannot be pawned for two square meals)
* Tum log chale jao. mein to waise bhi bahut door aa chuka hoon. Ab to mujhe waapas jaana hai.(You people can go. Anyway, I have come very far. Now I have to go back.)(Dialog just before his partners want to escape away in the end).

* Amitabh Bachchan lost the filmfare best actor award to Sanjeev Kumar(Aandhi) that year.
