Djiboutian franc



The Djiboutian franc is the official currency of the African nation of Djibouti. Its ISO 4217 currency code is DJF.

History

Essentially the Franc is a continuation of the old French Franc prior to its revaluation in 1960, initially the Bank of Indo China issued banknotes in 1920 designed only for Djibouti with Djibouti written in French, Arabic and Afar. Coins were issued in 1948 under French Somaliland, from 1968 as French Afars and Issas and upon independence in 1977 as Djibouti.

* Aluminium 1, 2 and 5 francs
* Aluminium bronze 10 and 20 francs
* Copper/Nickel 50 and 100 francs
* Aluminium bronze 500 francs issued in 1989.

1000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 francs
