Filipstad Municipality
Filipstad Municipality is a
Municipality in
Värmland, in west central
Sweden. Its seat is in
Filipstad with 6,300 inhabitants at an elevation of 155
metres.
Filipstad received city privileges in 1611 by
Charles IX of Sweden, who named it after his son
Duke Carl Philip (1601–1622; younger brother of
Gustavus Adolphus).
After a major fire of forest and towns in 1694 Filipstad lost the privileges, as it was believed the remaining forest would not be sufficient if Filipstad was to be rebuilt.
