Forest of Hope

Pikmin battling a Creeping Chrysanthemum in the Awakening Wood in Pikmin 2.

The Forest of Hope is an area in the Pikmin series of Nintendo GameCube games. It is the second area in both games, but has a different name in the first and second games.

Forest of Hope

The area is named the Forest of Hope in the first Pikmin game. The Forest of Hope is Captain Olimar's first and only destination after acquiring the Main Engine of his ship, located at the Impact Site. In the Forest, Olimar encounters the bomb-wielding Yellow Pikmin, for the first time. Many powerful enemies are located in the area.

The Forest is full of many enemies, including Bulborbs and Sheargrubs. A pond lies to the north, holding Wogpoles. To the south is the Cannon Beetle's nest. To the west is a plateau, and to the east is the Snagret Nest. Being a forest, the area is thickly vegetated, and visibility can be compromised by the game's camera, making some trips through the undergrowth dangerous.

There are eight ship parts in this area, all except the Nova Blaster are necessary for Olimar to escape successfully. Except for the Geiger Counter, the Radiation Canopy, and the Sagittarius, all of the parts can be obtained with just red and yellow pikmin.
*Eternal Fuel Dynamo
*Geiger Counter
*Radiation Canopy
*Whimsical Radar
*Extraordinary Bolt
*Nova Blaster
*Shock Absorber
*Sagittarius

Challenge Mode

The Forest of Hope in Challenge Mode is covered in Bulborbs and Breadbugs. It has several 1-pellets. Olimar starts with 9 Pikmin.

Creatures unique to the Forest of Hope Challenge Mode:
*Dwarf Bulbear
*Spotty Bulbear
*Pearly Clam Clamp

Awakening Wood

Captain Olimar returns to the Forest of Hope in Pikmin 2, finding it changed as if by the hands of human gardeners. The landscape, now covered with flower pots and bots of tile, has changed. Many things stay the same, however, including the Snagret Nest, the Armored Cannon Beetle's nest (which is now flooded), and Plateau. The Blue Pikmin have taken residence in the flooded nest, and other new creatures infest the area. The area contains four caves.

Hole of Beasts

An early counterpart to the Hole of Heroes, the Hole of Beasts holds many enemies already encountered in the Awakening Wood. Although full of Sheargrubs on the first few sublevels, Bulborbs hide in the later ones. This includes the boss, a queen Bulborb known as the Empress Bulblax. The corpulent creature holds a Treasure Radar, to make finding treasure easier.

White Flower Garden

Following the Hole of Beasts is the White Flower Garden, located on the side opposite of the Hole of Beasts. The Garden contains many agriculture-related animals, such as "pigs" (Fiery Blowhogs) and "chickens" (Snagrets). On one special floor is a patch of Ivory Candypop Buds, where Olimar and Louie discover the White Pikmin. The boss of the Garden is a Burrowing Snagret, which holds a Five-Man Napsack (really a gardening glove). The napsack allows use of the X button while no Pikmin are active, and the player-controlled captain will go to sleep.

Bulblax Kingdom

Upon obtaining the Yellow Pikmin in the Perplexing Pool, access to the Kingdom of the Bulborbs is possible. Inside the cave are powerful creatures, such as Orange Bulborbs and Wollywogs. The player's wariness is tested, as many boulders and Wollywogs fall unexpectedly from the ceiling in some areas of the cave. At the bottom is a giant Emperor Bulblax, the final boss from Pikmin 1. Although not as powerful as the Final Trial resident, the Bulblax is still a challenge, as the Yellow Pikmin are bomb-rockless. The prize for defeating the Bulblax is the Forged Courage, a Gundam action figure. It makes the player-controlled captains immune to fire. Also, on an altar on the same sublevel, is a Gyroid Bust from the Animal Crossing series.

Snagret Hole

The Snagret hole is located near the Snagret nest above ground. The cave is a peculiar one, as some floors consist of vast meadows and gardens. Many forest-related creatures live inside, such as Antenna Beetles and Cannon Beetle Larvae. The gardens hold Creeping Chrysanthemums. However, most prevalent of all, a major enemy found multiple times in the hole is the Burrowing Snagret. The boss is the Pileated Snagret, which holds the companion to the Forged Courage: the Guard Armor. It increases the defense of the pilots. In addition to all this, many treasures are Science- or Food-related.

Creatures

The enemies in the Forest of Hope and associated areas are usually bird- or insect-based, with Snagrets and Sheargrub appearing on many occasions. Spotty/Red Bulborbs are also common. The following are enemies in the Forest of Hope, Awakening Wood, and caves (minus those unique to Pikmin 1's Challenge Mode).
