Gary Forney
Gary Richard Forney (born
February 12,
1953 in
Oelwein, Iowa) American Song Poet and performer. He starred in
Off The Charts The Song Poem Story, broadcast on
PBS in 2003. The film gave him status as a cult icon in the little known field of "
Song poem" music.
Gary Forney's song "The Chicken Insurrection" was a tribute to underground cartoonist
Gilbert Shelton and has become a
song poem classic.
He has furthered his career with performances in Chicago, along with other venues, as singer and lyricist for the surreal
Iowa mountain tour of which he is a co-founder along with his son
Joshua ForneyForney has resided in
LaPorte City, Iowa since 1990 with his wife, Bonnie, and daughter, Laura.
He continues to write song poems and music which he performs with his son,
Joshua Forney. Gary also produces short films.
