Gateway Motorway
The
Gateway Motorway (Formerly the Gateway Arterial Road) (Metroad 4 to Eight Mile Plains and M1 to Pine River) is a major freeway in
Brisbane,
Queensland,
Australia.
It bypasses Brisbane in order to provide easier access between the
Gold Coast and the
Sunshine Coast. It runs from the
Logan Motorway in Drewvale (near Browns Plains) to the Gympie Arterial Road in Bald Hills. At the interchange with the
Pacific Motorway at Eight Mile Plains (Pacific Motorway exit 16) the route number changes from Metroad 4 (Logan Motorway - Pacific Motorway) to M1 (Pacific Motorway -
Bruce Highway (Gympie Arterial Road)). The
Gateway Bridge is part of the Gateway Motorway and the Motorway provides access to the
Port of Brisbane,
Brisbane Airport and
Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
The Gateway Motorway will be upgraded to 6 lanes from Mount Gravatt - Capalaba Road to Wynnum Road and 8 Lanes from Wynnum Road to Gateway Bridge. The Gateway Bridge crossing be upgraded to 12 lanes by building a duplicate bridge immediately next to the existing structure. North of the bridge the motorway will be routed further east from its current placement and will include an additional access road to Brisbane Airport.
