Code Data

*IATA Code: ST
*ICAO Code: GMI
*Callsign: Germania

History

Germania was founded in April 1978 as SAT in Cologne and started operations in September 1978. It was renamed Germania in June 1986. In 1992 the head office was relocated to Berlin-Tegel. In the same year, Germania was assigned by the German government the flight connections from the old capital of Germany, Bonn, to the new one, Berlin. This was called "Beamten-Shuttle", which is German and means "functionary shuttle". The airline's main business is the charter business: Germania flies, amongst others, for the German travel concern TUI and the German airline Hapag-Lloyd Express.

In 1998, the airline was pioneer in Germany in using airplanes for advertising. From 2003 to March 2005, Germania was acting in the low-cost airline business with its wholly owned affiliate "gexx" (Germania Express), until its operations were absorbed into Dba.

Services

Germania operates charter services from Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf and other regional airports to the Canary Islands, Egypt, Israel, Madeira, the Mediterranean, North Africa and Georgia (at January 2005).

Fleet

The Germania fleet consists of 1 Boeing 737-300 aircraft (at November 2005). It previously operated a further 14 Boeing 737-300 and 14 Boeing 737-700 aircraft. All of these aircraft have been disposed of.
