HMS Fearless
Seven ships of the
Royal Navy have been named
HMS Fearless:
*The first
Fearless was a gun vessel, launched in 1794 and wrecked in 1804 in Plymouth Sound.
*The second
Fearless was a "Gunbrig" which saw action at
Copenhagen in 1807 before wrecked near Cadiz in 1812.
*The third
Fearless was a wooden paddlewheel survey vessel, formerly the
GPO's "Flamer" renamed in 1837 and used as packet service until broken up in 1875.
*The fourth
Fearless was a torpedo cruiser launched in 1886, and sold off in 1905.
* The fifth
Fearless, launched in
1913 was one of the
Active class of scout
cruisers. She served in
World War I and was scrapped in
1921.
*The sixth
Fearless was an
F class destroyer built by
Cammell Laird and launched in 1934. She was damaged by aircraft and scuttled in 1941.
*The seventh
Fearless, an amphibious warfare ship of the Cold War era launched in 1963, participated in the
Falklands War and was paid-off in 2002.
