HMS Hotspur (H01)

HMS Hotspur (H01) was an H-class destroyer of the Royal Navy.

She was laid down by Scott's Shipbuilding and Engineering at Greenock in Scotland on 27 February 1935, launched on 23 March 1936 and commissioned on 29 December 1936. Hotspur participated in the First Battle of Narvik in April 1940, the Battle of Cape Matapan in March 1941 and the evacuation of Greece in April 1941, and attacked and sank the enemy German submarine U-79 in the Mediterranean north of Sollum while in company with the destroyer Hasty on 23 December 1941.

Hotspur was transferred to the Dominican Republic on 23 November 1948 and renamed Trujillo.

See HMS Hotspur for other ships of this name.
