Ipatovo

Ipatovo () is a town in Stavropol Krai, Russia, located on the Kalaus River some 120 km northeast of Stavropol. It is the administrative center of Ipatovsky District. Population: 28,100 (2005 est.); 28,594 (2002 Census).

Ipatovo was founded in 1860 as a settlement of Chemrek. It was later renamed Vinodelnoye (lit., "Winemaking Village") due to the fact that there had been many state wine cellars. In 1935, the settlement was renamed Ipatovo in honor of a Civil War hero P.M.Ipatov, who had died here in 1918. Ipatovo was granted town status in 1979.
