Kakizaki clan

was a japanese clan that mainly thrived throughout the Sengoku period of the 16th century. The Kakizaki clan of Echigo province were descendants of Nitta Yoshisada. Yoshimune, a descendant of one of the sons of Yoshisada, established himself with the surname of "Kakizaki" in Echigo. During the early 16th century, the Kakizaki supported that of the Jojo clan, where they clashed against Nagao Tamekage. But they soon came to serve under the latter's son, Uesugi Kenshin. During the Edo period as well, the Kakizaki remained loyal towards the Uesugi clan.
