Kathy Barry

Kathy Barry was a famous inhabitant of the Coal Quay in Cork City, commemorated by Con Hannigan in the below poem,

'Like those two famous landmarks:The Lough and Shandon Steeple:She was part of dear old Cork:And was loved by all the people...'

Born in an alley off the Coal Quay at the end of the 19th century, Kathy Barry was a famed beauty much loved by the market traders in the Coal Quay as well as those who frequented her sheebeen (unlicenced pub) also in the Coal Quay. The sheebeen was hidden behind a small shop she ran on the facade.
