KLIA Ekspres route map

KLIA Ekspres is a high speed airport rail link service between Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral) in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Passenger can buy their tickets and board the KLIA Ekspres at the KL City Air Terminal (KL CAT) which is an integral part of the KL Sentral transport hub. Otherwise, they can buy the tickets and board at KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). Passengers coming from KLIA can board the train first and buy their tickets on exit at Kuala Lumpur Sentral.

KL CAT has the IATA designation XKL and can be used by passengers to check in for flights from KLIA. Currently, only Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Royal Brunei Airlines flights can be checked-in at KL CAT.

The non-stop trip between Kuala Lumpur and KLIA is 57 kilometres and takes exactly 28 minutes. Trains depart at 15-minute intervals during peak hours and 20-minute intervals during off-peak hours. A basic one-way trip costs 35 ringgit (RM35).

The KLIA Ekspres began operations on 14 April 2002.

The KLIA Ekspres shares its tracks with the KLIA Transit, a commuter train service which also runs between KL Sentral and KLIA but stops at three intermediate stations.

Malaysians often refer to both services as the Express Rail Link or ERL. Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd is the concessionaire for both services.

Both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit use the Desiro trainset by Siemens AG. The trains run at a maximum commercial speed at 160km/h.
