Lee Hsien Yang

Lee Hsien Yang (Chinese: 李显扬, Pinyin: Lǐ Xiǎnyáng, born 1957) is the second son of Singapore's first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. He is currently the President of Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel). Lee was the Chief Executive Officer from May 1995 to 21 July 2006 and will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer, but will still remain in the position until a new Chief Executive Officer is appointed. He has ruled out a career in politics.

Like his brother Lee Hsien Loong (the current Prime Minister of Singapore), Hsien Yang received the Singapore President's Scholarship and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Merit Scholarship after finishing his secondary education, and went to study at Cambridge University. He then returned to Singapore to serve in the armed forces, rising to the rank of Brigadier-General.

Family

Lee married lawyer Lim Suet Fern, the daughter of Professor Lim Chong Yah, at Barker Road Methodist Church on July 18 1981. The couple have three sons named Shengwu, Huanwu and Shaowu.

His eldest son, Li Shengwu, won the Angus Ross prize for the best English A-level paper in the Commonwealth. He was also the Professor Tommy Koh Award winner for the best humanities student at Raffles Junior College. He will soon be going to Oxford University to read politics, philosophy and economics.
