Lightborn

Lightborn is a hip hop artist out of Philadelphia who is known and respected for his deep lyricism and skilled turntablism. Originally from the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, Lightborn became very spiritual at an early age, and it is reflected in his music. Lightborn created the beats for the "True Wordsmiths" crew and band "Sunpunch" and was a dub reggae and battle DJ, who began rhyming more at the request of friends who liked his freestyles. After the True Wordsmiths never put out an album, he worked for two years on his debut release "Angel of Def", which has had underground critical acclaim and has been well received for its originality and passion. Two months before releasing "Angel of Def" in October of 2004, Lightborn was signed to the independent label Level 3 Rhino Alert Records, which previously had only put our acoustic, reggae, and spoken word poetry releases. The success of Lightborn's Angel of Def has brought national attetnion to his creative interpretation of hip hop, and his next release "Astronomy" is scheduled for late 2006, with more of the space jazz type feel but also some reported "old school" bass flavor. Killah Priest of the Wu Tang family is the first confirmed guest appearance on the album as reported by Lightborn.net.
