Makerfield (UK Parliament constituency)
Makerfield is a
constituency represented in the
House of Commons of the
Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one
Member of Parliament (MP) by the
first past the post system of election.
Makerfield consists of the southern part of the
Metropolitan Borough of Wigan. It includes
Ince-in-Makerfield and
Ashton-in-Makerfield. It comprises mostly former mining towns and villages south of the main town of
Wigan.
Boundary review
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Greater Manchester, the
Boundary Commission for England has recommended alterations to the existing constituencies in the
Wigan area. The electoral wards used in the altered Makerfield constituency are:
*Abram, Ashton,
Bryn,
Hindley, Hindley Green,
Orrell, Winstanley, and Worsley Mesnes.
These changes move Ince-in-Makerfield to
Wigan.
