McCook County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
South Dakota. As of
2000, the population is 5,832. Its
county seat is
Salem6. The county is named for the former governor of the
Dakota Territory and
Civil War general
Edward Stanton McCook.
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,495
km² (577
mi²). 1,488 km² (575 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it (0.46%) is water.
