Murray Cook
Murray Cook (born
June 30,
1960 in
Cowra,
New South Wales,
Australia) is an Australian vocalist, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as a member of the children's band
The Wiggles.
Cook finished his secondary schooling in the southern suburbs of
Sydney in the 1980s. Afterwards he was a clerk in the
Australian Taxation Office and played in a Sydney-based rock band called
Finger Guns.
As a member of the Wiggles Cook wears a red shirt and serves as an instrumentalist and backup vocalist. He occasionally sings lead vocals and employs
falsetto techniques in some Wiggles songs. His
schtick is an obsession with playing the
guitar.
Cook is a "full honorary member" of the Sydney-based band
Bang Shang a Lang[
1] and plays with them when he is in Sydney.
Cook's family has a background in
law enforcement. His father, Russell, was an assistant commissioner with the New South Wales Police Service. Cook's sister Fiona is also a police officer.
Cook is married to Meg Munro. The couple have two children, Hamish and Georgia.
