Pipestone National Monument is located in the county, just north of the town of Pipestone.

mi²). 1,207 km² (466 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it (0.06%) is water.
Although Pipestone County contains no natural
lakes, it does have one man-made
reservoir created by a
dam.

married couples living together, 6.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.00% were non-families. 30.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.80% under the age of 18, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 24.60% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 21.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $31,909, and the median income for a family was $40,133. Males had a median income of $27,642 versus $20,759 for females. The
