Posterior cingulate
The
posterior cingulate cortex is the backmost part of the
cingulate cortex. Cingula in latin means belt. This belt is the one surrounding the corpus callosum. This is the upper paert of the
"limmbic lobe" of
Broca. The cingulate cortex is made up - an area around the midline of the
brain. The area is seen in, e.g.,
humans. Surrounding areas are, e.g., the
retrosplenial cortex and the
precuneus. Cytoarchitectonically posterior cingulate cortex is associated with
Brodmann areas 23 and 31.
