The line was then temporarily extended to North Point until August 18 of the same year. The two platforms are now a part of Tseung Kwan O Line.
The station is noted for having the deepest platforms on the MTR network, with deepest depth of 37m from the ground, to allow the tunnel to dive across the Victoria Harbour. The station's concourses, however, are at ground level and open directly to the street. As a result, four sets of escalators and many long passageways are necessary to connect the concourses to the deepest platforms.|platforms=Platforms 1 and 2, and Platforms 3 and 4 are both island platforms.
Since platforms 3 and 4 were built some time after platforms 1 and 2, no platform interchanges are available in Quarry Bay station. Commuters interchanging between the two lines have to walk through a long passageway for about 5 minutes to reach the platforms of the other line.
This inconvenience is what prompted the MTRC to undergo the Quarry Bay Congestion Relief Works, which extended the Kwun Tong Line one stop to the west to North Point Station, where cross platform interchanges are provided. However, that extension only benefited people who resided west of North Point.
