Seamus Deane
Seamus Deane is an
Irish poet,
critic and
novelist.
Deane was born into a
Roman Catholic nationalist family in
Derry,
Northern Ireland in
1940. He attended the well known
St. Columb's College in Derry.
His first novel,
Reading in the Dark (published in
1996), was shortlisted for the
Booker Prize and won the
Irish Times International Fiction Prize and The Irish Literature Prize in
1997. He is also the general editor of
The Field Day Anthology Of Irish Writing.
His nonfiction work includes:

A Short History Of Irish Literature (1986)
The French Enlightenment And Revolution In England 1789-1832 (1988)
