Shueisha

Shueisha Jimbocho Building in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan

is a major publisher in Japan, headquartered in Tokyo. The company was founded in 1925 as the entertainment-related publishing division of Japanese publisher Shogakukan. The following year Shueisha became a separate, independent company. Shueisha's Jump Comics division is a large publisher of manga.

Shueisha later founded Hakusensha, which has gone on to become another of Japan's most successful publishers.

is one of the many imprints operated by Shueisha.

Shueisha publishes the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and organizes the Tezuka Award in Japan. Shonen Jump, begun in 1968, is the world's most popular and most successful Japanese manga magazine.

Shueisha, along with Shogakukan, owns Viz Media, which publishes manga from both companies in the United States.

The name "Shueisha" comes from the phrase Eichi ga tsudou (英知が集う, loosely translated as "Assemble knowledge"). The on-yomi of the kanji 集 is shū.
