Sullia is the city belonging to the
Dakshina Kannada district of the state of
Karnataka, India. The main languages of Sullia are
Tulu,
Konkani,
Malayalam and
Kannada. This place has also got different plantations like rubber , areca nut and also banana.
Sullia... the treasure of nature.. It's name Sullia has come from the word "suli" in kannada which means "whirl-pool" in the local river Payaswini.. This whirlpool is near kurunjibhag.. And is very dangerous.. Majority people are from Gowda community.. Dr. Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda gets the credit for his excellent achievement in education and in making a modern Sullia popular in the country..
