*The Marquesas was only selected as a backup location- the original location was
Jordan, but the
September 11 terrorist attacks prompted CBS to move it from the Middle East.
*The Marramu Tribe set a record for fewest wins by tribe (two reward challenges, one immunity challenge). The Ulong Tribe in
Survivor: Palau later won 3
reward challenges.
*Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien and
Rob Mariano were selected as contestants on
Survivor All Stars, with Mariano finishing second.
*Paschal's elimination marked a change in Survivor's rules. Previously, if a tie could not be broken after a revote, previuos votes against served as a tiebreaker and if a tie remained, those involved in the tie would face off in a sudden-death trivia contest to determine who would be eliminated. In this vote, Neleh and Kathy each received two votes. All three tribe members without immunity pulled rocks out of a sack and the person who pulled a purple rockwas eliminated. When a similar situation arose in Survivor: Palau, the two contestants tied in the voting competed in a challenge to determine an elimination.
