Tony Martin (rock singer)
Anthony Martin Harford (born
April 19,
1957) is best known as the vocalist for the legendary rock band
Black Sabbath from
1987 to
1991, and again from
1993 to
1996. Martin was the longest serving vocalist for Black Sabbath other than founding vocalist
Ozzy Osbourne.
He was dismissed from the band in 1991 to accommodate the reunion of the
Mob Rules lineup:
Tony Iommi,
Vinny Appice,
Geezer Butler and
Ronnie James Dio. He returned to the band in
1993, and left once again sometime in
1996 while the band was on hiatus. He was not "officially" dismissed until 1999.
Martin has since been involved in many other projects (such as Tony Martin Band, M3, The Alliance, Misha Calvin, The Cage, Giuntini Project II), yet his most memorable gig remains his time as frontman of Sabbath, a gig he was originally somewhat reluctant to pursue (when asked if he would rejoin Sabbath if he were to be asked back, he answered with a resounding "NO!")
