Vallabh Vidhyanagar

Vallabh Vidyanagar, also Vallabh Vidhyanagar, is a town in Gujarat state of western India. It is located in Anand District, between Ahmedabad and Vadodara, 6 km from the town of Anand. In fact, with the rapid development in the township, Vallabh Vidyanagar has become a suburb of Anand.

With the establishment of Charutar Vidya Mandal followed by the establishment of Sardar Patel University, the town founded by Shri Bhaikaka with the blessings of the iron-man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a leader of the Indian Independence movement and the first home minister of India. The reason of foundation of the University and the town was to spread the Education in the Rural Areas of Gujarat. Both the town and the Sardar Patel University (SPU) are named in honor of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The town is also known as V.V. Nagar.

Initially developed as an educational township, as the name suggests Vidya means Knowledge and Nagar means Town in gujarati, the town has now become a hub between the urban and rural culture. It is a habitat that has got almost all types of urban facilities with yet pollution free and natural milieu. It lures many Non Resident Indians (NRIs) to buy property here.

Anand, famous for Amul, is the milk city of India. Also, it is one of the big railway junctions falling on the main line of Mumbai and Ahmedabad of the Western Railway of India. Ahmedabad is about 68 km and Vadodara about 32 km. from the city of Vadodara. Ahmedabad has an international airport and Vadodara has a domestic airport.

The foundation of Amul and SPU proved to be a revolution in Gujarat.

Besides scores of University Departments, V.V. Nagar has many Trusts running colleges, affiliated to the Sardar Patel University. The oldest of these is CVM (Charutar Vidya Mandal). With the new dimension of disciplines emerging, CVM also expanded to the New Vallabh Vidyanagar. The University has been the strongest candidate for becoming the only Central University in Gujarat. In fact, many departments boast to be on the National and International Map in their subject. The University is accredited with the Four Star Rank by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (Govt. undertaking). The University has attracted a significant number of foreigners to enroll in various programmes.
